US Federation South-South and Triangular Conference
International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity. Among the many days celebrated by the United Nations is the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation celebrated September 12 in 2011. It commemorates the date when the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a plan of action in 1978 to promote and implement technical cooperation among developing countries.
The South-South and triangular cooperation has become the vehicle for closer alignment of development cooperation in the context of such principles as solidarity, equality and multilateralism in order to build forward better and turn the transfer of knowledge, technology and policy into mutually beneficial learning experiences for all participating countries.
To that end, the U.S. Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and associations is partnering with regional and international organizations to host a 3-day South-South and Triangular Cooperation Initiative in the Washington, DC metro area under the theme: In search for innovative and practical solutions for Peace & Educational challenges of the 21st Century. This will take place from October 8th-11th 2023, with optional side events and activities occurring between October 11th -13th 2023 including a trip to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York.
